ACT
The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. It is a multiple-choice, pencil-and-paper test administered by ACT, Inc. Most high school students take the ACT, SAT, or both during the spring of their junior year or fall of their senior year.
The ACT is a standardized test designed to show how much ready a student is for higher education. They find this by checking a student’s reading comprehension, writing skills, and then compare with the rest of the high school students who take the same test. An international student to attend a US school, must take either the ACT or SAT. Schools don't differentiate between the two tests, and a strong standardized test score is a key part of your application.
This chart explains the structure of ACT test.

ACT scores are between 1 and 36 points.
For each section of the test, you'll get a raw score, which is the number of questions you get right. That is then converted into a scaled score between 1 and 36. The composite score is simply the average of your four ACT section scores (the writing score is not counted as it's optional).
Presently, the average Score ranges around 21 to 23 ; however, it keeps varying each year.
When you take the ACT depends on when your application deadlines are and whether you live or want to take admission in one of the states that accepts the ACT. After your 9th grade and before you enter 12 th grade.
This question confuses a lot of students, but it's not very important as it there not much of a difference between the two tests and most of the schools accepts both scores.
